For over four decades, Bobby Nivens and his wife have been the proud owners of Britt’s Donut Shop, celebrated for its iconic homemade glazed donuts. Established in 1939 by H.L. Britt, whose portrait adorns the shop walls, Britt’s has consistently ranked among the top ten doughnut shops nationwide. It stood out as the only doughnut shop from the Carolinas to be featured in Saveur magazine’s list of top U.S. doughnuts. Originally, Britt’s occupied a spot across the boardwalk, near the arcade, before relocating to its current location in 1969 under Mr. Britt’s direction. Gaining national attention, Britt’s helped the Carolina Beach boardwalk earn the No. 8 spot on USA Today’s list of ‘best boardwalks for food’ in 2013. Furthermore, MSN City Guides recognized Britt’s as the nation’s second-best doughnut, and The Daily Meal recently named it the best doughnut in North Carolina, solidifying its status after nearly 79 years of operation in Carolina Beach.
